My philosophy in helping includes consideration and validation of each individual's unique life experiences and cultural, spiritual, emotional, psychological, intrapersonal, and interpersonal functioning. My expertise is geared primarily towards adolescents, teens, and individuals of adult age, mainly with normal situational and developmental issues. I have experience with challenges ranging from low self-esteem and general anxiety to severe depression, trauma, and suicidal ideation. My passion is helping those in life transitions and those who feel voiceless/powerless in their families, relationships, careers, communities, and or society.
My work has involved the special populations of those with mild to moderate mental and physical health conditions, LGBTQI individuals, military families and veterans, Spanish speaking individuals, couples, and families, mixed-status families, and mixed/adoptive families. I make meaning for my life by helping others find meaning and integrate meaning with their various resiliencies in life.

More Info About My Practice
Due to my early life experiences including having been adopted from Costa Rica in Central America at age 8 by American parents, I can not only relate to immigrants and transcultural difficulties but also to mixed families, adopted children and their families. Additionally, I have had to learn to adapt quickly to ever-changing environments and major life transitions and will work with you to cultivate meaning and integrate that meaning with your various resiliencies in order to live purposefully and vibrantly in all your life chapters.
Experience more than counseling... Experience your life journey through transformational self-discovery! Are you coping with feelings of anxiety, depression, and/or anger? Are your marital issues so serious that you believe that you cannot carry on? Are you grieving the loss of a loved one? Is your teenager exhibiting difficult behaviors? Are you feeling burned out at work, searching for clarification in your career path, or trying to find meaning/purpose in life?... We will work together and empower you to help yourself! I have over 10 years of experience in bilingual individual, couples, family counseling and life coaching.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
I believe the client-therapist relationship is the most critical element in our work together. I have found that through genuineness, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and trust building with clients the work becomes more and more a partnership in which both counselor and client learn valuable lessons from each other. As the trust grows within the therapeutic alliance so does the trust increase within the client to feel confident to make their own decisions, clarifying their values, and realizing their authentic goals.
