My Approach to Helping
Gena Kohner is Licensed Associate Counselor and has practiced in the valley for over 6 years. She actively works to meet you where you are at, and recognizes the unique experiences and qualities that each person brings to counseling. She provides an environment free of judgment, where it is safe to share the raw truth of your story, struggles, and fears. Her ability to be authentic and transparent, while speaking truth with compassion, is one of the things that sets her apart. Gena genuinely desires to build a real relationship with you, while providing a space for you to feel valued, heard, and understood. Her desire is to not only support you as you identify and work through your issues, but to also quickly educate and teach how to implement new skills and tools to provide relief, as well as for continued success outside of the therapeutic setting.
Gena specializes in treating trauma, PTSD, addiction, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and relationship issues. She utilizes a mind-body integrated approach with all of her clients, combined with other modalities (such as EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness, and IFS), to give her clients the best possible outcome. Gena has also had extensive training in EMDR, and is in the final stages of certification.
