My Approach to Helping
People have an amazing ability to meet the myriad challenges life presents. We all aim to do the right thing while retaining our sense of humor about the challenges life offers. When life gets difficult, though, it can be impossible to do it alone. It is courageous to seek the help you are seeking when you contact me. By working to improve your life, you can rise above your challenges. Psychotherapy works; you don't have to suffer forever.
No one gets an owners manual on how to live well, so we all do the best we can. Usually it works out okay, but we all develop problematic emotional or behavioral habits from time to time. Oftentimes these habits help us through a challenging time but then become obstacles to getting where we want to be.
I know that many of my clients start therapy while overwhelmed with unpleasant feelings, so my first goal is to offer some immediate relief in the form of a safe and nurturing environment. My clients describe me as relaxed and easygoing, and they find this attitude calming and reassuring. I do everything in my power to help my clients feel safe and understood. A sense of safety is crucial to healthy therapy because it allows you to open up and embrace positive changes.
As we work to restore your sense of self and feelings of well-being, we can adapt a more active approach to handling the challenges in your life. You are ultimately the person in charge of therapy, and I encourage all of my clients to collaborate with me to plan their treatment. After we get to know one another, I'll offer several treatment approaches. We can talk about the benefits of each, and then you'll choose the direction, length, and intensity of your therapy.
Psychotherapy can both calm and invigorate your mind, and my clients find therapy enjoyable and even fun. The process of self-discovery is a meaningful one full of wonderful surprises and joy, and I would be honored to help you begin your journey.
