My Approach to Helping
I help clients who are feeling overwhelmed or stuck. Together we discover insights and make changes toward greater wellbeing. Warm, compassionate, and adaptive, I tailor my approach to meet your needs. In our sessions, I offer a welcoming space to come as you are. I am compassionate and nonjudgmental. My clients say I'm easy to talk to.
I am not the kind of therapist who sits silently in my chair. I am engaged. I listen and reflect back, ask questions, and offer interpretations. I pay attention. I care about my clients.
In therapy, I work with you to identify limiting beliefs and offer alternatives. Sometimes I will challenge your thoughts if I think they are harming you. That said, you are the expert on your own life. I offer support where you want it so that you can feel more at peace in your life.
I integrate of a range of therapeutic approaches depending on clients' needs and interests. I work with my clients every step of the way to make sure that we are on the same page. Therapy is YOUR time. If you are interested in working on a particular issue or trying out a particular modality, we will discuss and explore what makes sense for you.
My work draws on Acceptance Commitment (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT), as well as Harm Reduction, Mindfulness-based therapies, relational, feminist, and multicultural frameworks. The reality is that no one approach works best for all people or all problems. A therapist can be trained in every modality in the book but the most important element of effective therapy is a good clienttherapist relationship.
