My Approach to Helping
My approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, as well as techniques from other modalities that I know and feel are appropriate. I am forever a student constantly learning and applying new tactics to serve my clients better.
On a less technical note my approach is also:
-goal oriented
-person centered
-strategic
-evidence based
-semi-structured (as you can see below)
So what happens when you work with me? Great question! Glad you asked. Let me walk you through the process...
1. We'll have a phone conversation where I will tell you a little about me, answer any questions you have and hear a little about what's happening with you. We'll make sure we are both comfortable with one another. This part is important!
2. After that if everything goes well we'll meet for a first session! Either in person or over video chat and we'll break down your goals more specifically and get to know one another further.
3. Once we have our direction, we'll use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, or any other necessary tool to address whatever issues we have made our target. In that way, I don't use just one approach for all issues, but whatever the most appropriate tool for the specific issue is.
