My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed New York State Clinical Psychologist who received a Doctorate degree from Adelphi University. My goal is to help my clients achieve fulfillment in their lives. Feelings of dissatisfaction, lack of trust, lack of control, and low self-esteem can be very difficult to cope with and they frequently result in anxiety. Recognizing the impact that seemingly insignificant worries can have on people?s lives led me to develop a special interest in treating anxiety disorders. I have become an expert in this area and I am able to offer you help if you feel that anxiety has become an obstacle to leading a happy life. During my training and professional experience I have also developed expertise in the treatment of depression, personality disorders, trauma, eating disorders, addictions, and Attention Deficit Disorder. In addition, I conducted work with women who suffered from Postpartum Depression and my research in this area was published in the Journal of Group Psychotherapy. My intention is to offer you a warm and empathic therapeutic environment. Together we could explore your concerns and help you make the changes you desire.
More Info About My Practice
I am a strong believer that our upbringing has a tremendous impact on who we become as individuals and that our early life experiences continue to affect our relationships and wellbeing throughout our lives. This belief has led me to develop a specialty in relationship issues. My extensive research through my doctorate degree in Psychology focused on ways in which individuals' upbringing and personality styles affect their ability to form relationships, and on the issues of romantic jealousy and infidelity.
I have been privileged to work with people from a variety of backgrounds. I was trained to work with children, adults, couples, and families utilizing individualized approach to treatment. When necessary, I administer psychological testing. I am fluent in the Russian language and offer psychotherapy and psychological evaluations in both English and Russian languages. In addition to helping you solve the immediate problems that bring you to treatment, my goal is to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and to bring about lasting emotional and behavioral change.
In addition, my practice offers people an opporutinty to be a part of a group conducted by Dr. Mitchell Flaum, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Below you can find brief descriptions for each group:
BECOMING A BETTER ME
The group will address problems such as self-esteem, impulse control, finding friends, and coping with peer pressure. Members will be encouraged to raise issues stemming from school and home, such as learning to be more self-reliant, coping with the demands of peer groups, or dealing with bullying.
SELF-DISCOVERY - TEENAGERS
The adolescent years can be described as a time of emotional confusion and turmoil. It is also a period of inner growth, as the adolescent struggles to form a sense of identity. This group will address one's core values, family conflicts, communication; self-esteem, resiliency, and decision making.
LIFE MASTERY SKILLS 101 - YOUNG ADULTS
Young adults have a unique set of challenges to contend with. The group will focus on the following issues: leaving home, self-confidence, boundaries, assertiveness skills, and relationships.
LIFE IN TRANSITION - ADULTS
As we move through stages of life we will inevitably experience points of transition that challenge us to swiftly adapt to. The loss of a job, the passing of a loved one, divorce, health issues, or caretaking responsibilities can easily undermine our ability to cope. This group will focus on resiliency, problem solving, loss, and self-worth.
