My Approach to Helping
I help dynamic, intelligent, driven people who are struggling to translate their academic or career success into relationship and personal life success, whether in dating, marriage, parenthood, life transition, or just overall day-to-day happiness. Perhaps you focused so much energy on your career that you neglected the personal parts of life, figuring they would just fall into place on their own or you may have sacrificed your own desires all in the name of love. The emotions are complex, especially since you want to love the life you are in, yet you still feel frustrated, lonely, angry and hurt. You wonder why you can't just enjoy the good parts of your life.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The work I do strives to help you know yourself deeply so as to give you the opportunity to have real agency in creating the life you want to live. You will learn to start noticing your own patterns and behaviors, and will grow the capacity to engage in your life in a way that is conscious and intentional, rather than driven by some unknown, unhelpful (and often untrue) message you internalized years ago. My goal is to help you to develop a way of thinking and operating in the world that really takes into consideration all parts of you, all of your varied layers, and to teach you how to make the lasting changes necessary to live a conscious, engaged, fulfilled life. No band-aid, quick-fixes here...this is real, deep-dive, know-the-good-and-the-bad-and-everything-in-between-of-your-true-self kind of work.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Many people come for sessions once per week. In some circumstances, I meet with people twice or three times per week. We will talk about what frequency works best for your specific circumstances. While many therapists (and infomercials) promise rapid results in as little as 6-weeks time, I am not interested in offering you a false magic wand. Finally having a safe space to express and process everything you're experiencing may help you to feel somewhat better pretty quickly, however the process of deeply knowing your true self and the patterns that deter you from really engaging in your life in the ways you long for takes time. It takes time for us to get to know each other, to build a relationship, to build trust, to peel back the layers (gently, but in a way that challenges you to take the risks necessary to grow), and to develop and implement strategies for lasting change. That said, we can work together for as long as you experience our time together as a space for continued growth. Part of our work will be to talk about what that will mean for you.
