My Approach to Helping
Hello! My name is Erica. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
My approach to therapy is fairly simple; I attempt to meet clients where they are in their treatment journey and assist them in getting to where they would like to be. I have experience with a wide variety of mental health issues and there is no issue that is too big or too small for me to work with. I believe that each client, no matter the presenting concern, is deserving of the assistance they are asking for. If they have faced the internal struggle it takes to decide to seek professional help, I can get them through the next steps. I will follow their lead in the treatment process and offer my guidance while assisting the client in discovering the strengths they already possess to heal themselves. I use a careful combination of realism, witty humor, compassion, and unconditional positive regard to encourage my clients to grow into the best version of themselves.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am a certified clinical trauma professional. I am skilled in working with clients who have experienced trauma and are suffering from symptoms limiting their ability to perform day-to-day tasks or lessening their quality of life.
I am also skilled in working with clients with Mood Dysregulation (Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety), Eating Disorders, Suicidality and Self-Harm, Substance and/or Alcohol Use Issues, and Personality Disorders/Tendencies.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
My interest in the area of psychology and therapy began when I was 11 years of age and lost my oldest sister due to the symptoms of her Bipolar Disorder. I have experienced death and bereavement in my life more times than I can count. I have had personal experience with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. It is my belief that experience of life's struggles can make one better equipped to assist those who are also struggling. There are plenty of individuals who can provide adequate mental health assistance with education alone. I believe that education, continuing education, and life experience add to one's arsenal of tools to assist their clients. I believe that understanding, from personal experience, some of what my clients are going through is important to the healing process. My experience with life's tendency to kick us when we?re down provide me with the compassion I need to walk with my clients through their darkest days and show them what they already have in themselves to find the brighter days.
