My Approach to Helping
Reaching out for help is one of the most courageous acts a person can do. As a therapist, I am always honored when I have the opportunity to help someone cope with the difficulties of day to day life. I am a person-centered counselor. I believe that a strong working alliance between the counselor and the client is essential to successful therapy. If the relationship is not strong then trust and safety are hard to establish. I work very hard to establish a successful working relationship with each and every client. Once that foundation is established, I utilize an integrated approach of evidenced based therapies, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy and EMDR. I was trained as a generalist and work with a wide range of clients and issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, Bipolar Disorder, adjustment disorder, LGBTQIA concerns, impaired professionals (alcohol, drugs, depression, anxiety, loss of motivation), and relationship issues. I work with my clients to establish coping skills, distress tolerance, psychological flexibility, emotion regulation and techniques such as mindfulness as a key coping mechanism.
