My Approach to Helping

You’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck, falling into familiar patterns that aren't working. When you want to tap into your strengths to push through you’re finding feelings of shame and self-criticism and then you shut down. These experiences can be harder having had to face prejudice and invalidation. You've been braving it on your own and are ready for help in taking those next steps toward healing. You don't have to do this alone.

Clients have described me as warm, patient, and curious. I emphasize the importance of safety, grounding, and exploring with mindful awareness and self-compassion to begin to change those harsh words and beliefs that you've been applying to yourself for so long. Life can be harsh enough, healing doesn't have to be. We may even share a laugh from time to time! I earned my MS in counseling in 2014 and I've worked in a mental health clinic and college settings, including at a local art college. These experiences led me to work with clients with creativity, flexibility, and patience. I will meet you where you're at and walk with you each step of the way.

More Info About My Practice

It’s hard to remember when you didn’t feel so overwhelmed that you’re barely holding it together. You’re stuck and it seems like one more challenge and you’ll be in chaos-mode, scrambling to find a way back to just keeping your head above water. Sometimes the rush of anxiety or fear is so uncomfortable that it affects your concentration and ability to follow through on plans or work. Shame has haunted you through the different parts of your life and it is hard to believe that you could feel seen or that you belong, especially when you've been hurt in the past. You want relief so that you can get your life back.

I help people find ways to heal through times of anxiety and struggles with shame and self-criticism. As a queer counselor, I also have a passion for supporting other people within the LGBTQ+ community to address the unique ways that wounding can happen as we move through the world around us. I meet you where you're at and we create a plan together.

Taking the step to reach out to a counselor is one of the boldest steps toward change and healing, so I understand it carries a lot of weight. I’m here to answer any questions you have and to talk through any hesitation you may be feeling about getting started. Give me a call to schedule your free 15 minute phone consultation for counseling.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

When I was starting out as a counselor a colleague responded to something I said saying "Counseling can be a 50 minute revolt against the way things are." I knew then that I was in the right place. When it comes to healing, I believe that there is power in challenging those stories we've been told about who we're "supposed" to be, whether through others' words or actions. Especially when the "supposed to be's" are extensions of bigoted beliefs that you don't even hold yourself. How often have you put yourself down in ways that you would never do to a dear friend or loved one? Where did that voice come from and is it time to challenge it? Under the pain of the shame and anxiety you've carried around, there's that calm, knowing voice that's connected to who you truly are, and I'm looking forward to meeting that person. If you find yourself in anything I've shared here, reach out for your free consultation and I'll be happy to answer any remaining questions you have!
