My approach to helping begins with understanding and valuing a person's individuality and resilience. I firmly believe that we all have the ability to not only survive but thrive. We all have the capacity for change, and change can be intimidating yet necessary and rewarding. By understanding oneself better and enhancing the skills that one already has, or finding new skills to cope with, we can achieve more positive outcomes in life.

I believe that you know yourself better than anyone else in your life, and we will work together to help you understand YOU better and reach the potential that you may not be aware you have. I am a proponent in mindfulness and we can utilize mindfulness techniques in our work together. I am also certified in Problem Solving Therapy and trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and Social Skills Training (SST).

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am particularly skilled at working with caregivers, having worked with caregivers of veterans and dementia/Alzheimer's patients for the last 4 years. I believe caregivers are quite unique in that they often put all others before them and others' needs before their own. Their ability to adapt and their resilience is remarkable, yet they can often burn themselves out due to lack of self care. A caregiver can be a child, sibling, parent, spouse, neighbor, or professional caregiver. They can all experience their own stress due to caregiving, and it is important to manage this stress properly, to better help the individual as well as the person they are caring for.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I believe that psychotherapy is a tool that everyone can use to enhance their well-being, and it should not be something that lasts forever. A great mentor once told me "the point of therapy is not to stay in therapy," which I agree with. To me the point of psychotherapy is to develop, use, and enhance skills to improve your overall life, so you can be independent and have a fulfilling life.
