The decision to pursue therapy can often be difficult, whether you are beginning therapy for the first time or choosing to return to therapy. Sometimes, the most difficult part is taking that first step to reach out for professional support. By reaching this website, you are already one step further towards reaching your goals. In my years as a psychologist working with clients from all walks of life, I have found one thing to be true; no matter who you are and no matter why you are choosing to begin therapy, I believe that clients who seek therapy are incredibly strong, courageous and resilient.

Sometimes we just need a little help to clear the cobwebs, gain new perspective and step out of our own way to recognize our own value and abilities. That's where I come in. I use a supportive, insight-oriented approach that is individually tailored to you, in order to help you overcome the challenges that life often brings.

A key to successful therapy is a "good fit" between therapist and client based on trust, respect and comfort within the relationship. While this relationship takes time to build, I take great care to ensure you feel welcome and comfortable from the first session. I am committed to making sure you and your family receive the best possible care. I am passionate about the work I do and have been honored to help hundreds of individuals, couples and families succeed in their therapy journeys.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Therapy is about curiosity and exploration, not critical judgment. It is about gaining a deep understanding and awareness of what makes you think, feel and behave the way you do. It is a way to practice skills in a safe space before you try it out in the world. It is a connected, trusting relationship with someone who is only focused on you and your well being. Therapy can lead to profound and lasting changes that can help you gain a sense of control and live a deeply fulfilling and meaningful life.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

I typically work with older adolescents, teens, adults, and couples. I enjoy working with people in psychotherapy because of individual differences and diversity. Everybody brings something unique to the table and I take great pleasure in getting to know who you are. Some people worry if they will be considered normal, or if their problems are considered normal problems to address in counseling. In my way of thinking, there is no such thing as normal. There are averages, what?s considered usual and mainstream, and there are societal expectations, but a true ?normal? does not exist. So please don't be concerned about that. We will work together on what you want for yourself; perhaps to feel healthy and strong and happy, and to reach your true potential. Trust and comfort in any relationship takes time to build. I understand that you may feel nervous about opening up to a stranger. Being vulnerable with someone is not always an easy task, but I hope you will find me to be warm, empathetic, accepting, and easy to talk to from the start. I encourage open communication and welcome your questions, concerns, thoughts and ideas regarding your treatment. While I may give suggestions and recommendations, it is important for you to feel comfortable in advocating for yourself and your needs. Therapy with me is a collaborative experience. While treatment length varies depending on the person and circumstances, you are in control of when your therapy ends.
