My Approach to Helping

I understand how difficult it is to find the right psychotherapist. You have to feel comfortable, trusting to share your innermost thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. You want empathy, understanding, and compassion from a therapist who remains professional, thoughtful, and focused. You and your therapist need to be a good "fit," so the two of you can work together as allies to make connections and understand what is going on inside of you. With more than 30 years' experience as a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Center City Philadelphia, I may be the right therapist for you.

I specialize in treating individual adults and/or couples who are experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties - including issues with a spouse, partner (gay or straight), parent, co-worker, boss, friend, or family member. My approach is psychodynamic, where we focus together on insight and understanding in order to bring about change. I prefer to work on two levels: I will help you identify what to do right now for your current situation, while we explore underlying causes to permanently resolve your problems.

More Info About My Practice

In general, people see me once a week, although some prefer to come more often. I do not accept insurance or offer a sliding fee scale. However, depending on your individual circumstances, we can talk about identifying a fee which is acceptable for us both. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

When choosing a therapist, it is vital that the you feel like you and your therapist "click," that you're a good match. Therapy involves a considerable investment of time, emotion, and finances, so you must have confidence in, as well as respect for, your therapist's competence. The two of you will be like a team of detectives, figuring out puzzles in order to understand and resolve your repetitive patterns. I generally suggest that you schedule initial appointments with two different therapists - after seeing both, you will know for sure which one is the right therapist for you.
