My Approach to Helping
I am supportive, interactive and direct while I am here to listen and learn what is happening for you and what you want to accomplish. You are likely here, because whatever you have tried is not working and, you are wise to seek an objective, trained professional who might help identify alternatives and solutions in a safe atmosphere. My process while listening carefully, is to integrate and apply the various approaches in which I am trained. Though in clinical practice many years, I have no set formulas or predetermined approaches because you and your situation are unique. My focus is to fully understand, without judgement or pre-conceptions, what you are experiencing now, and what might be getting in the way of what you want. These are the paths towards solution finding, which we will do together at whatever pace seems right for you. Experience and advanced degrees are important qualifications and these give me the needed and best tools to help. Your unique situation, calls for those approaches which will work best for you at this time towards that purpose.
When choosing a therapist, you want to know something about their experience. I have been in clinical practice for over thirty years and I also teach and mentor other psychotherapists in my role as professor and consultant. My approach to theory is integrative as is my approach to who you are; a being consisting of mind, body and spirit with a wellspring of potential who is also connected to, and influenced by, other beings and the larger environment.
When we meet, I will be listening carefully to understand your struggles, strengths and goals and offering feedback based on what I learn. Together we will find a way to discover and live the life you seek, however that is or, will be defined by you.
