My Approach to Helping
Life is difficult and stressful. Sometimes no one understands or seems to listen. Oftentimes, we don't want to burden friends and family with problems that seem trivial (they're not!) when they've got their own lives and their own problems. Sometimes there are people in our lives who trigger difficulty for us, and we need an outlet for coping.
Individuals experience pain, frustration, anger, and emotional dysregulation as a result of life events and physiological processes within the body. Through my training in ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and mindfulness, we can develop a plan to help manage these emotional responses and better navigate life's difficulties. For those who have only a short time to give to therapy or a limited budget, I am also trained in solution-focused brief therapy, which allows you to utilize the skills you already have to navigate the present issues.
I also work with children and adolescents, aged 5-18 with the consent of their parents/legal guardian(s). I am a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor and have been working with this population for over 20 years. Children and teens build connections in unique ways, and my approach utilizes the "language" of creativity and play to aid them in their communication of emotions and issues.
