My Approach to Helping
In just a few weeks, your life has gone from something you could reasonably predict to something that feels uncertain and frightening. Normally, you'd try your usual strategies -- going out to Starbuck's with a friend, heading to the gym, or attacking your to-do list so you feel more in control -- but none of those things are currently available. Your mounting anxiety is dredging up old issues and tensions in your relationship and making you feel even more isolated and alone.
We understand and want to help. Nova Terra Therapy PLC is a counseling practice in Burke, Virginia that helps stressed adults to get relief from the anxiety that's holding them back. Our highly-educated, down-to-earth counselors can see you online or in-person and will collaborate with you on feeling better as quickly and efficiently as possible.
While practicing social distancing and curtailing your movement around the community, online counseling can be a great option to help you weather this crisis. Our therapists will meet with you for a free 15-minute consultation to assess if you are a good candidate for online counseling and if it will meet your needs. We know that meeting your counselor virtually may be a big difference for you and want to give you time to get comfortable, hear about the ins and outs of telemental health, and ask questions.

We're practical, caring, dedicated helping professionals who have worked to make our practice as client-friendly as possible. With online self-scheduling, automatic credit card payments, and a lot of availability, we are ready to help.
We also have given a lot of thought to how to keep our clients as safe as possible during the coronavirus outbreak.
1) have you bypass the waiting room by texting from your car when you are ready to come in.
2) use our entry and exit doors more effectively, by assigning different doors to different clinicians and their clients to minimize contact.
3) space all of our chairs further apart to maintain the appropriate distance.
4) clean several times a day, wiping down hard surfaces and door handles.
5) use our empty offices as spaces for you to bring your laptop and hold safe, private virtual sessions with your therapist (we know that home isn't always a peaceful or private place these days!).
We're also open to your suggestions. It's a time to be flexible, creative, and resilient. Using these skills and our collective will, we can get through this together.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
Thank you for being willing to share that you have had a less-than-stellar counseling experience in the past. This tells me a couple of important things: 1) that you may be understandably wary of a new therapy relationship, and 2) that despite that, you are brave enough to try again. I appreciate that you need this situation to be different, meaning better -- much better. Unfortunately, I have had my own lousy therapy experiences so I know what it's like to finally get up enough oomph to reach out only to be disappointed.
