I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #105949. I have been working as a therapist for a little over 4 years. I am passionate about working with children ages 2-17. I strongly believe that every person has the potential for their ideal self inside of them and sometimes people just need a little help finding that strength.

I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with anxiety. Sometimes anxiety can be so debilitating that you or your child can't function and other times you or your child just need some added skills to better manage the anxiety.

I utilize an approach that's gentle and validating, involving non-directive play therapy and client-centered therapy. In my practice I allow you or your child to decide where therapy goes and what you or your child need to process. A lot of praise, validation, and unconditional positive regard will be used to help your child gain more self-confidence and anxiety management. I also provide you or your child with skills to better manage the anxiety. I am a soft-spoke individual who is knowledgeable about anxiety, tantrums, anger, anger management, and normal child development as well as many other areas.

With children, you are a big part of helping your child succeed! So, let's work together to help your child whether your child is dealing with the divorce of you and your spouse or struggling with anxiety, having parents who support their child by also knowing how to help them manage their anxiety is important. You will also be taught the skills your child learns.

I strongly believe your child is resilient and a lot of times your child has the ability to find his or her own solutions to problems if given the chance and therapy is where your child will get the chance to discover his or her own solutions in a positive and nurturing environment!

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I specialize in working with children who are struggling with anxiety, worry, and fear. I will teach your child skills to help him or her manage his or her anxiety better and I will work with you, as their parent, to help your child manage their anxiety as well.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

When you choose someone who you are going to be working with as a therapist, one of the most important factors to consider is the "fit" between you and the person you are choosing to work with. If you don't feel as though the "fit" is not right, then you won't feel comfortable opening up and the same goes for your child. Your child will know who they feel comfortable with and who they don't. A few more important factors may be age and ethnicity. Sometimes you may prefer to talk with someone who is older or someone who is younger and that is your choice. It is completely fine to say that you want to work with somebody older.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

I believe that going to therapy means you are strong because you had the strength to realize you needed help and you had the strength to ask for it. A lot of times when your child is in therapy, he or she can gain skills and confidence to deal with life's challenges. Therapy can be an encouraging and supportive environment for your child to learn and grow and find out who they want to be.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

I believe that the therapist/client relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy. If there isn't a strong relationship built, your child will not feel comfortable sharing who they are and what they are struggling with. Having a willingness to allow children to be who they are in session is one of my greatest strengths. I like to spend the first 8 sessions building rapport with your child and getting to know your child and having your child feel comfortable talking with me. After the 8 sessions of rapport building, we will start working on building skills to help manage anxiety more effectively.
