Mental Health in Tulsa

Tulsa has one of the highest rates of suicide and mental health concerns in the United States. State funding to address public mental health is steadily decreasing. With less investment in mental health, highly treatable conditions tend to become chronic concerns.

First responders to mental health crises are sometimes overwhelmed by emergency calls. In 2017, 13,000 calls to 9-1-1 involved mental health.

The city has established a community response team (CRT) to help address the issue. The team helps first responders with mental health-related calls, giving them time to respond to other emergencies. In 2018, the CRT received $106,000 in funding to respond to emergency calls two days per week.
