What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

For me, nothing can compare to the moment when I see someone realize their own value and potential. That pivotal moment when it all clicks, they discover that they are in control of their life and have the right to say no, take care of themselves, and move towards building a meaningful life that feels genuine and empowering.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

If you're on the fence about seeking therapy, you either had a negative experience with it in the past, heard about one or have never tried it. If you've had a negative experience, it is possible that yourself and that particular therapist were not a good match. I believe that in order for therapy to work, communication should feel comfortable, like speaking with a trusted friend. If it does not feel this way, if the therapist has no experience in the area you are seeking therapy for, or if you are feeling judged, it's time to get a new therapist! Therapy is a place to ventilate your feelings, get an objective perspective, gain coping skills for stress and negative emotions, work through problematic situations, heal from current or past trauma, and release all that no longer serves you. If you are looking for a therapist who specializes in several evidence-based therapeutic models and throws humor into the session when appropriate, you've come to the right place.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I personally got into the field of psychotherapy while combating my own issues with anxiety and complicated family dynamics. Through my own therapy, schooling and research, I was inspired and knew that the only profession that would fulfill me was helping others the way my therapist had helped me. I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the therapeutic relationship, unsure if I'd ever feel better. Many years later, after practicing independently and directing several mental health programs, I can tell you from experience that yes, you can feel better. With help, you may surprise yourself with what you are capable of!
