Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
You do not have to settle because they are "in your network or they are the first therapist you call". It is important that you ask questions and that you get answers that are acceptable to you.
Some factors in choosing a therapist to consider are:
1- Do their values align with yours?
2- Do you prefer a male or female therapist?
3- What qualities are you looking for in a therapist that are important to you?
4- Do they offer a free consultation to see if they are a good fit for your needs?
5- Do they have the expertise you are looking for?
6- Are they a provider for your insurance or do they offer you Out-of-Network Discounts?
7-Do they offer referrals if you do not feel after a few sessions you are not a good fit?
8-Are the accountable to a Board, Certification, and Licensing standards?
