My Approach to Helping
Life can be challenging at times. Sometimes a therapeutic non-judgemental environment can help you understand, process, and deal with life's stressors and transitions in a helpful and beneficial manner. I provide a client-centered approach, with talk therapy. You may also benefit from mindfulness techniques and from learning some nervous-system regulation. Or perhaps, you may find it necessary to break unhealthy patterns: repetitive and unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Let's begin with building a trusting, therapeutic alliance, assessment, and then create a plan that can help you to regain some serenity, as you work on managing life's stressors and transitions.
With children and sometimes with teens and adults, I use play therapy. Young children sometimes don't have the vocabulary to articulate emotions and thoughts and may have difficulty identifying emotions. Through play, they naturally express thoughts and feelings. Through play therapy they may learn to recognize, identify, and label emotions; and learn strategies to better manage difficult emotions and behaviours. I work with children who experience anxiety, behaviour issues, grief, attachment issues, and more.
