My Approach to Helping
I value a humanistic and person-centered approach to counseling and believe that each and every one of us has an inherent drive for self-actualization. My role as your therapist is to encourage you to uncover your drives so you can strive to reach your full potential. We will collaborate together to identify your strengths and develop solutions for the issues you are experiencing currently in your life. We will explore your patterns, thoughts, and actions, and focus on the here-and-now choices you can make to re-orient yourself to the present moment. I will give you clarification, encouragement, interpretation, and information to help you make choices that will help you transform your goals into reality.
As a therapist specializing in depression, anxiety, relationships, and addiction, I appeal primarily to people struggling with feelings of hopelessness or helplessness, excessive anxiety, fatigue and low energy, low self-esteem, concentration or decision-making problems, mood swings, couple or family relationship problems, parenting issues, or over-reliance on alcohol or substances.
Although I work primarily with adults and couples, as a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, I also specialize in working with younger children and adolescents. I strongly believe in the importance of working with entire families whenever possible. In my Family Therapy work I assist families with a myriad of issues, including behavioral issues, ADHD, anger management, oppositional defiance and impulse control disorders, handling family conflicts, developing effective coping skills, moving beyond loss and grief, and adjusting to divorce and the blending of families.
