My Approach to Helping

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is David Wynn and I am a licensed clinical social worker. If you don't already know, a clinical social worker is a social worker who is trained in psychotherapycounseling. I have been providing clinical social work services since 2009 in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Prior to 2009, I worked in other social related fields to include homeless shelters, halfway houses, and child protection. I have experience working with people of various ages, ethnicities, religionspiritual practices, political affiliations, and genders.

My style is casual. I prefer to listen than to talk. I believe people are the expert of their own lives and the role of the counselor to serve more as a guide or facilitator. I don't expect people to agree with everything I have to say. I do encourage people to make attempt in doing things or thinking in new ways. If I don't know something, I will let you know and then do research to answer any questions. Besides the benefit of being there to help people, the greatest thing I like about my work is learning. I can't believe how much I have learned about people, life, and things in the world from simple conversations.

The most important thing I need from you is honesty. I can't help you if you are not honest. Please don't tell what you think I want to hear. I don't want to hear that things are "good," "fine," or "okay" if they aren't. I get that we sometimes are embarrassed and are afraid to show the world our real self. I need you to know that I will not judge you. It doesn't matter what you have done, thought, or experienced as I believe you are still a person of value.

A little background information on me, I am army brat, meaning my father was in the army and we frequently moved around the United States and internationally. I later served in the Army for 8 years working as a helicopter mechanic and later a chaplain assistant. In 2002, I married my wife and became Dad to 3 daughters, we later added 2 boys to the mix. While I don't feel old enough to be a grandpa I have 4 grand kids who call me "pop-pop." When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with family, playing video games, reading, barbecuing, and I'm a bit of a news junkie.

One last thing, I love to laugh and I will encourage you to do the same.
