My Approach to Helping

Do you struggle with eating disorders, addictions to substances, food, sex or gambling? Are you trying to deal with PTSD, and habitual negative thinking? Getting to the root of these challenges is often more important than simply addressing the symptoms. I am dedicated to and have devoted my life's work to helping others uncover patterns that keeping them enmeshed in pain, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, insomnia, and mood management problems. Once patterns are uncovered, we take simple, doable steps toward change.

As an empathic, EMDR trained therapist, I can help you change areas of personal difficulty. I will help you work through the painful feelings that accompany change. People need support before, during and after changes are made. I use a family systems approach, helping people develop a clearly defined sense of self. Then we can construct a niche where your new self can succeed and prosper.

I have a solid and proven grasp on drug and alcohol abuse issues and can help you achieve and maintain a fulfilling life in recovery, if you so choose. I can also help you address and gain recovery from non substance addictive disorders such as bulimia, binge eating disorder and compulsive overeating. If sexual issues, compulsive sexual behavior, gambling or internet pornography have come to the surface and are interfering with your life and relationships, I would like to help you gain meaningful recovery and help restore damage that may have resulted.

Sometimes people may have experienced instances of severe or extreme abuse so much so that they develop a protective shell that guards them from future trauma. This "shell" might affect the ability to form safe and trusting attachments to people. In therapy, we can safely begin to heal the pain that led to our "shell" and begin to trust ourselves, others and the world.

If you are experiencing symptoms of a thinking disorder or psychosis, or extreme mood cycles, I can support you in finding proper medical support. Then we can explore and discover ways to accept symptoms and learn what they mean while making a commitment to limit how much they can interfere with our quality of life.

I can help Talented and Gifted individuals and those with other learning differences including Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD feel understood, supported by designing and constructing environments of success.
