My Approach to Helping

You are always becoming the person that you are.

My approach to depth psychotherapy starts from this premise. Who a person is and how they come to understand themselves is an ongoing life-long process. There are times in life when that process is disrupted and as a consequence, we suffer—struggling to locate ourselves and find our way forward. That suffering is best alleviated through collaborative understanding and insight building. In this way, my approach is a holistic one—as I see each individual as a sum of their total life experiences rather than a collection of symptoms. My aim is to help my patients better understand their individual life context through learning what a particular symptom is trying to express.

As a licensed clinical psychologist I have extensive experience treating problems associated with life transitions, griefloss, identity, sexuality, trauma, addiction, depression, and anxiety. My practice is informed by contemporary psychodynamic theory. From this perspective, I listen very closely and past the surface of suffering so that together we can address the underlying issues and create the conditions for lasting change.

More Info About My Practice

As licensed Clinical psychologist with over 12 years of experience. I have received advanced specialized training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, integrative psychotherapy, community mental health, group therapy, substance abuse counseling, and couples counseling. I have worked with multi-culturally diverse and low-income patient populations including individuals suffering from severe mental illnesses (e.g., schizophrenia) and those struggling with substance dependence. I have provided individual psychotherapy in college counseling settings to students from diverse backgrounds. Areas of expertise include: Life transitions, relationships, depression, anxiety, griefloss, psychosis, trauma, substance abuse, personality disorders, and work with gender non-conforming patients. In addition to being in private practice I am also an adjunct professor of psychology and a clinical supervisor.
INCORPORATION OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION IN CLINICAL WORK
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are the dimensional pillars of a humane world. Because I approach each person that I work with holistically I see a person as the sum of their experiences, and identities over time. We are all embedded in the intersectional complexity of an ever-evolving world and as such I consider not only one’s personal experiences but also the way in which the world around us impacts our development in addition to the ways in which the injustices of society and culture impede our wellness and sense of self.
