My Approach to Helping
After your first session you will get an understanding of your underlying patterns and issues, a prioritized plan for repairing the damage, and hope for more emotional connection. I’ll get to the heart of the matter quickly and through your goals with insight, enthusiasm and positivity.
90% of my practice is specializing in couples therapy and relationship issues.
With 40 years’ experience and advanced training and certifications in couples therapy, I use Accelerated Couples Therapy with the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Real Life Therapy, as well as psychodynamic and positive psychology interventions.
I’ll collaborate with you in a genuine, direct and humorous style, not wasting time and providing homework to practice your communication and relationship skills.
Most of my couples see the improvement they want in 3 to 6 months of weekly and alternating week therapy sessions. I also provide accelerated sessions, private Marriage Retreats, and workshops for Gottman Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified coach, best-selling author, and nationally recognized relationship expert featured on radio and television. I’ve helped thousands of couples over the last 40 years find love and happiness again.
I’ve dedicated my career to developing the skills necessary to help couples save their relationships fast. Using Accelerated Couples Therapy, my clients can accomplish months of therapy quickly.
My 90% success rate makes me an in-demand therapist for celebrity and high-profile professionals. Clients have flown into Las Vegas to work with me from all over the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Since 1975, clients have benefited from my experience, wisdom, humor, and especially my positive take on life.
More Info About My Practice
I love to do accelerated therapy sessions and retreats for couples. These include assessments, questionnaires and private work with me over one, two or three days. Some couples like to begin their therapy this way with a 4 or 5 hour session which helps pull them out of the difficulty they are in. Others, many from around the country as well as the world, come for a two or three day retreat. Often they complete the equivalent of 6 months of therapy and that is it! They go home with a plan for continued growth and we have calls for follow-up work.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy helps you know yourself and others better. You have the opportunity to learn things that no one ever teaches you and correct things that you learned through osmosis or without mentorship. So much of what we do is educational that you will not find it threatening but supportive of you becoming more of who you really are. Therapy loosens stuck and opinionated view points and helps you become flexible, open and authentic.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
I like to see clients weekly for a few sessions to get momentum in stopping the ineffective behaviors and beginning the use of new skills. Then most clients choose to attend alternating weeks and often transfer to once a month after they are happy with their improved life satisfaction and well being. I also like to see clients for intensive sessions and retreats mentioned above.
The length of your therapy depends on you, how much you commit to improving yourself, and the regularity of your doing homework and practicing skills. I don't do the kind of therapy where you attend one hour a week and then don't think much about it the rest of the week. I like working with clients who treat therapy like taking a class for a semester. You notice change in 3 to 6 months. For some that is all you need. For others, a good year is needed to change some behavior patterns and heal from the damage of broken trust.
