My Approach to Helping
I specialize in helping couples create peace and happiness in their relationships and clients who have had difficulty finding success working with other therapists. I work with all relationship issues and conflicted marriages. 90 % of my practice is Couples Therapy.
I am part of the 12% of therapists working with couples who have advanced training and certifications in couples therapy and am a skilled therapist with over 30 years' experience and expertise.
Clients have the opportunity to understand different points of view, know their own non-successful patterns, and learn to manage their stresses and conflicts without judgement and blame. We get right to the problems and limiting patterns, and move quickly toward change and resolution. You will develop many skills for your life and relationship satisfaction, as well as improved trust and intimacy. Issues often include communication, emotional distance, and infidelity.
As a seasoned psychotherapist specializing in positive psychology, personal and executive coaching, I have a warm and collaborative relationship with my clients. They appreciate my experience, wisdom and humor. If you want someone who will connect with you, understand your particular life or work situations, and help you use your strengths to create more peace, better communication, more happiness and love in your life, then please call me or visit my website.
More Info About My Practice
I love to do accelerated therapy sessions and retreats for couples. These include assessments, questionnaires and private work with me over one, two or three days. Some couples like to begin their therapy this way with a 4 or 5 hour session which helps pull them out of the difficulty they are in. Others, many from around the country as well as the world, come for a two or three day retreat. Often they complete the equivalent of 6 months of therapy and that is it! They go home with a plan for continued growth and we have a couple calls for follow-up work.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy helps you know yourself and others better. You have the opportunity to learn things that no one ever teaches you and correct things that you learned through osmosis or without mentorship. So much of what we do is educational that you will not find it threatening but supportive of you becoming more of who you really are. Therapy loosens stuck and opinionated view points and helps you become flexible, open and authentic.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
I like to see clients weekly for a few sessions to get momentum in stopping the ineffective behaviors and beginning the use of new skills. Then most clients choose to attend alternating weeks and often transfer to once a month after they are happy with their improved life satisfaction and well being. I also like to see clients for intensive sessions and retreats mentioned above.
The length of your therapy depends on you, how much you commit to improving yourself, and the regularity of your doing homework and practicing skills. I don't do the kind of therapy where you attend one hour a week and then don't think much about it the rest of the week. I like working with clients who treat therapy like taking a class for a semester. You notice change in 3 to 6 months. For some that is all you need. For others, a good year is needed to change some behavior patterns and heal from the damage of broken trust.
