My Approach to Helping
Sometimes we have thoughts, feelings or experienced things that we don’t know how to handle, or where to even start. This feeling is more common than most of us think and has been my drive into becoming a helping professional. I earned my bachelor’s in Psychology and minored in Criminal Justice from Caldwell University. I then went on to earn my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgian Court University. I have experience working in a partial care setting for individuals with persistent mental health and co-occurring disorders, in which I ran various groups and met with individual clients. In addition, I also have experience working in residential facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders. In this setting, I worked alongside a treatment team creating and implementing treatment goals/plans.
More Info About My Practice
As a licensed counselor, I maintain a nonjudgmental understanding of individual beliefs, values, thought processes, and experiences, which in turn, allows the counseling experience to be a safe space. There is no one counseling approach that is a catchall. I believe each session, each modality and technique used within counseling should be personalized, which is why I utilize an integrative, person-centered approach to fit your individual needs, and most importantly your best interest. Some counseling techniques I utilize, but not limited to include Narrative Therapy, Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and more. I am a passionate advocator for my clients and practice in a collaborative manner, as I encourage self-awareness, education and understanding of diagnoses, and mental health concerns. Having had experience working with diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds, and diagnoses in both individual, group and family settings, my goal is to work alongside you in a mutually respectful therapeutic relationship in which we work towards your goals. As your counselor, my ultimate goal is not only to provide you with adequate services, but to also equip you with tools to thrive afterward as well.
I am a huge advocate of de-stressing and self-care activities! In my free time, I love nature walks and sightseeing. If you don’t see me walking on a trail or on the boardwalk, you can find me laughing and hanging out with friends, looking up new recipes, or DIY ideas. I also like to write, but shh – it’s a secret!
