My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a scientific approach to emotions. Everything we think and feel comes from somewhere, and if we can become better informed about the source, we will then be able to make adjustments. I would use the analogy of a mirror. Imagine trying to complete tasks such as grooming hair, applying makeup, or putting on contact lenses without a mirror. It is not impossible but very difficult. Therapists are like mirrors for the brain, they help their client attain a insight and self-awareness essential for improving. We help the client understand their feelings so they may be proactive in changing hurtful feelings through healing, forgiveness, letting go, optimism, peace, contentment, happiness and many more feel good emotions.
