My Approach to Helping
I truly believe that we are all doing the best we can. Yet, sometimes we get stuck. Our methods of surviving are no longer working. Other times, life events have built up in a way to have us overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. We may develop patterns of feeling, thinking, and behaving that don't help us out of this hole, but can make it even deeper. This includes avoidance, isolation, irritability, aggression, mood swings, or overusing substances. Therapy is a place to explore these patterns so we can learn other ways of managing feelings, thoughts, and behaviors to stop feeling stuck. To move forward again.
Starting that journey can be a difficult step. It is the step it takes to reach out. I focus on meeting people where they are to help develop mutual goals around the changes they want. By starting with acknowledging these patterns that have gotten you stuck we can reduce the stigma and shame around them in order to let them go and create new patterns.
