My Approach to Helping
Early in my career, I remember attending a seminar on assisting victims of trauma. I was listening to a veteran speak about not being able to wrestle with his memoriesexperiences of war and feeling disconnected to his life outside of the military. He was talking about his journey and his recovery to feeling more connected and invested in the world around him. He said, "I learned that you can't bury it outside if it's still deep inside you." That was it. Those were the words that I heard over and over. "You can't bury outside it if it's still deep inside..." I have used those words so many times with individuals in my work. It has motivated me and deepened my passion for helping others, and to build a practice of therapists with the same mission.
Our role with you is to offer a safe place to open up, explore feelingsemotions, and walk with you towards recovery. Your experiences are unique to you and we are here to bear witness to those experiences, offer compassionate listening, understanding, and to be a guide. Therapy is something that we do together. We may all have our own definition of feeling disconnected and lost. Our own "war inside." We can learn a lot through challenging times, and having a consistent and confidential guide can often make that journey more bearable.
