My Approach to Helping
People change and heal when they are able to be open and direct with their thoughts and feelings. People remain anxious and depressed when they are alone in that experience and are not understood and accepted as they are. Emotional and relational pain changes when people are connected. Therapy is a process of establishing a new relationship with a therapist in which this pain can be seen and understood through empathy, compassion, and acceptance. Counseling is different from Therapy. Counseling offers advice and strategies that the therapist has in their mind. Therapy is a process of discovering together how certain emotional and relational patterns were established and continue to affect their present life situations. Creating a safe dependable therapeutic relationship helps establish new ways of integrating emotional pain and connecting more openly in relationships. Emotional pain can now find its "resting home."
