I believe therapy is a direct path to a happier, more fulfilling life. I approach therapy as a collaborative process between client and therapist. Creating a safe, empathic environment that fosters open, honest communication help us unpack old wounds, understand fears and negative behaviors, or why life just isn't working out the way we want. If we can understand how or why we got to a negative place, we can then use appropriate strategies and techniques to change our feelings and behaviors to a more positive direction. Nothing gives me more happiness than helping someone conquer depression, renew a love that has gone stale, recover and find strength from a broken relationship, or find confidence that they will have a loving relationship. I also help people manage anxiety, improve self esteem, empower themselves for change or cope with feeling overwhelmed by life.

I offer a free, 20 minute phone consultant for new clients.

More Info About My Practice

In my practice, I help individuals and couples understand and transform difficult life issues into opportunities for growth. My specialty is assisting clients to better understand why conflict or unhappiness exists in their life, how to take control of these issues and transform them into positive behaviors and feelings.

For individuals, my focus is often on helping them understand themselves: why they lack a significant relationship, how to cope with the end of a relationship, how to find their personal power and purpose. For couples, I am a certified Imago Relationship Counselor and can offer effective strategies to reduce conflict, enhance respect and connection, and restore and deepen love.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Human beings are complicated folks. In our society and culture, an individual is encouraged, sometimes expected, to be successful, almost always happy, manage all conflict well or solve all issues with ease. We really don't tolerate failure, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, or a host of other negative traits. We are pretty much supposed to handle all of life on our own; maybe with some family or friends for support, but essentially we are supposed to figure it all out. If not, we get messages that we are weak or not normal or not good enough in some way. Nothing could be further from the truth. Courage is realizing you need some help or support; courage is reaching out to find it.

I realize that many people feel fearful of psychotherapy or misunderstand psychotherapy. I believe that good psychotherapy practice and the right therapist can easily help people feel comfortable and encouraged by the process. Psychotherapy can help you understand why some things exist in your life as they do: why you feel so angry all the time or so sad so frequently, or why you are having trouble finding the right relationship, or why you now feel anxious and nervous. Then, psychotherapy can offer strategies and techniques to improve these issues.

The role of the therapist is like a guide and a mentor, their purpose is to listen, understand and offer effective ways to transform your negative issues. No psychotherapy can keep you happy and positive 100% of the time, but it can help increase those feelings and work through negative issues with greater confidence and less anxiety. Therapy is like getting a PhD. in yourself! It can foster more compassion, more energy and more joy in a life. I am a wholehearted believer that therapy can benefit most people....if they will take the plunge!
