Billing and Insurance

I don't currently accept insurance, but I can provide documentation if clients wish to submit to an insurance company for "out of network" benefit coverage

Fees: Why engage a private therapist? There are a number of reasons to choose a private therapist including privacy, quality and cost. Cost is often not as great as you thought if you have a PPO plan. Indeed, in some cases the co-pay has been as low as $25 per session (even $0) but it varies based on what your company offers. I can also send a courtesy bill to your insurance company so you do not have to file them yourself.

My purpose in therapy is to help you overcome challenges and to shape thriving life for yourself. I've seen quite a few people who've worked with me achieve these aims.

What can you expect to accomplish? Change across a range of possibilities -- improved mood on a lasting basis, new and effective coping strategies, effectively standing up for yourself, improvements in your relationships and career including your daily work life, peace of mind, enhanced creativity, love and fun!

I approach therapy drawing on training and experience in a number of areas. The standard approaches include examining your past, identifying patterns and seeing how you repeat them in the present ((psychodynamic); as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that a key drive of healing is what are called corrective emotional experiences with me. Your sense of safety is essential to exploring your world. So I also use relationally-based therapy and access areas of your inner world that may not yet have been verbalized with experiential therapy that gets to the core of your experience.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

I combine the approaches best suited to your personality. One example that addresses the relationships in your life is called attachment theory. Based on that we'll look At the people in your life that have influenced you and how that shows up now. Your family may push your buttons in ways that weren't helpful. We'll work together to reset them.

I also use some of the new cutting-edge approaches (AEDP and Hakomi) that integrate body-based feelings and experiences as well as the latest developments in brain science and neuropsychology. By focusing on the body we're not just thinking and talking about the changes you want and need; you'll actually feel them. This impacts and increases motivation. Finally I bring over 25 years in mindfulness to assist us in stepping back and gaining perspective.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

Why come to me and not just rely on your family and friends? As a neutral person I've nothing to gain or lose, or as they say, "I've got no skin in the game." I've been a practicing clinician for over 15 years. Prior to that I also worked in corporations (high tech, financial services, etc.); as core faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS); as well as an environmental economist to international, federal, state and local agencies; and I also founded and ran my own firm. I believe this background helps me to understand not just your emotional world but also the world you may have worked in.
