My Approach to Helping
When it comes to working with clients, I feel the relationship between a therapist and a client should be a good fit, with the client feeling comfortable, supported and understood by their therapist. I encourage clients to challenge themselves in establishing new patterns of behavior and reactions to emotional stress. My main specialities (but not all) are in Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, TraumaPTSD, Dual Diagnosis. I am a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, National Association of Social Workers, American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work and the Employee Assistance Professionals Association.
I have over 17 years working in the Mental Health field. I'm a compassionate, person-centered therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and pragmatic feedback in helping clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.
I am recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in the areas of Substance Abuse and Psychological Health by the United States Government. I have worked both within our US military mental health clinics (stateside and abroad), as well as becoming several different program directors within the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. I am also highly skilled in Clinical Supervision and was most recently the Military and Clinical Advisor for the John's Hopkins Navy Social Work Fellowship Program.
