Families can be both our biggest source of comfort and love and our biggest source of frustration and heartache. Family problems are complicated and we often have difficulty seeing and breaking out of the patterns that keep us locked into the same recurring struggles. Our family is where we learned how to interact with the world around us, carrying those strategies forward into our adult lives - even when they may no longer be working very well for us. These strategies show up in our relationships with our spouse, children, siblings, bosses and co-workers. I help families and individuals get more of what they want from their lives and their relationships.

More Info About My Practice

I am a Certified Breakthrough Parenting instructor. Breakthrough Parenting is a program that helps parents learn more effective ways to respond to the challenges of raising responsible, self-directed, confident, and loving kids. I offer group parenting classes, one on one parenting support, and parent coaching. Breakthrough Parenting meets the requirements for court-ordered parenting and co-parenting classes, and is often specifically recommended by courts. Call me for more information.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I specialize in working with children and teens with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. I work with kids who are acting out at home or in school, having difficulty in their peer/sibling relationships, engaging in destructive or dangerous behavior, or having problems with self-control, emotional outbursts/tantrums, mood swings, ADHD, anxiety or depression. I believe that kids do well when then can, and when something is getting in the way of their ability to do well, they show us with their behavior. I take a developmental and relational approach to understanding behavior, looking at what is underneath the behavior. I work collaboratively with parents to help repair the damage that these kinds of challenges can have on family relationships and rebuild the connection between family members. Having experienced the same kinds of challenges in my own family, I understand the impact that they have and the importance of providing a safe and non-judgmental space for the family to work on rebuilding trust and connection.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

So much of our self-worth is tied up in how others see us, how well our families are doing, how much we achieve at work, and other external markers of success. These markers can cause a lot of fear and anxiety around how we measure up and may make you hesitant to seek therapy. Therapy is a safe and non-judgmental space to explore these concerns with an unbiased person who can help you sort out your thoughts and feelings and make sense of the issues that are concerning you. Together, we can look at what is working and what isn't working in your life and work towards shifting the things that aren't working. Call today for a free phone consultation.
