My Approach to Helping
Welcome to my private counseling practice! You have made a courageous decision towards your present and your future, and I am here to support you along your journey.
My name is Chrishina J. Scott. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I work with adults, ages 18 and older. My goal is to help you develop and implement tools and strategies to overcome the challenges of life.
Counseling with me typically consists of 6-8 sessions as my primary approach is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy; which can be summarized as a three-part theory: (1) What's the trouble? (2) If it works, do more of it, and (3) If it doesn't work, stop doing it. Do something different. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes) and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and developing personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.
I describe my counseling style as interactive and compassionate. When necessary, I provide between-session assignments to assist you with applying the plan into action. With patience and empathy, I believe in meeting you where you are. Together we can build a trusting relationship, allowing you to say whatever it is you need to say without the fear of judgment. We may even find some humor along the way. After all, that can be an important component of therapy as well.
