My Approach to Helping
I am passionate about helping people create a rich and fulfilling emotional life as they heal from grief, loss and trauma. I love being a therapist and deeply respect how difficult it can be to ask for help and reveal your wounds and vulnerabilities. I find many of my clients ask two similar questions, "Why can't I just get over it? Lots of people go through the same kinds of things and they get over it. What's wrong with me?"
The truth is that healing from grief, loss or trauma can be very painful, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. These experiences change our lives and can change our view of ourselves and others. However, you don't have to navigate this alone. Having support during the healing process can make all the difference! My approach is collaborative, empowering and strengths-focused. Together we will work to help you heal, increase your ability to cope with stress, and decide how you want to move forward with your life. The skills and insight you gain can help open the door for you experience more peace of mind, joy and self-love.
I use a Feminist Multicultural Therapy approach and work in a collaborative and strengths-focused way; I specialize in using EMDR, CBT, mindfulness and empowerment techniques. We can't change the past, but you can rewrite the meaning you've made of your experiences and honor your strengths and abilities. We will work together to help you heal and see yourself and your future in a new light.
