My Approach to Helping
My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in the psychoanalytic tradition. Together (with curiosity instead of judgment) we explore aspects of your thoughts, feelings, and actions that are not fully realized or understood, especially as they are experienced in the therapy relationship. As you begin to feel accepted and more deeply known in therapy, you are able to experience yourself in a new way. This process opens the door to change, whether you are seeking immediate symptom relief or longer-term personality transformation. My style is warm and engaged, and I strive to create a safe space in which you can talk openly in the presence of an empathic, trustworthy other.

My Therapy Focus
I work with people in psychotherapy seeking help for a wide range of concerns. Most often these are experienced as anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or a vague sense of being stuck or of missing out on something more that life has to offer. My experience has taught me that these are usually symptoms of underlying problems that are not fully known or understood. By focusing not just on symptoms, but also deeper parts of your self that have been covered over for good reason, more lasting change becomes possible. This approach to therapy is often effective for people who have been to therapy in the past, but continue to be frustrated by patterns in their lives that repeat over and over again. It's also the most widely sought approach for therapists who are looking for their own psychotherapy. I see these individuals in my practice as well as anyone seeking help with the issues/concerns listed on my profile.
