My style as a psychotherapist is to provide supportive counseling matching my interventions to your needs to help you examine challenges, rediscover strengths, and explore relationships. I seek to provide a safe space and collaborative partnership with you and your family. While I have expertise in the therapy process, you bring your knowledge about your own life, family patterns, and struggles. Together, we can look at the problems you are facing with a spirit of gentle inquisitiveness to see what psychological explanations "fit" your situation and work together to alleviate your symptoms, build on your unique strengths, and improve your relationships.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My specialty is helping children, adolescents, and young professionals manage the changes in their lives that affect their connection to others. I am passionate about working with youth and young adults struggling with trauma, depression, mood swings, anxiety, inattention, hyperactivity, behavior issues, anger, self-harm, identity development, and healthy relationships. I use primarily talk-based therapies with teens, young adults, and young couples. As a member of the Association for Play Therapy and the Indiana Association for Infant & Toddler Mental Health, I have expertise in providing a variety of effective therapeutic techniques to toddlers, preschoolers, elementary-aged children, tweens, and families.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy is an intentional, guided process in which we explore your thoughts, feelings, and actions to help you get "unstuck". Whether you are frustrated with your child's behavior, bewildered by your teen, overwhelmed with "adulting", or unsure how to improve your intimate partner relationship, therapy provides support and clinical expertise so you won't be left lost and alone to figure out life's challenges.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

In the therapeutic relationship, I believe in the importance of dialectics- two usually opposite ideas- perceived as "and" rather than "or". This allows me to believe that you need to make the changes you want AND you are doing the very best you can with what you know right now. As I accept you for who you are while supporting your desire to change, you are able to have honest discussions with me about difficult subjects without shame or blame. Through this trusting, supportive relationship, we are able to move into deeper work to address and alleviate your problem.
