My Approach to Helping
I believe that we all have the desire to increase our experience of joy and satisfaction, as well as the inner resources to optimally manage our personal and professional lives and to confidently meet life's challenges. In counseling we work together to identify those strengths and resources and to learn and practice new skills. It takes honesty, patience and the recognition that perhaps there are other, better options. But most of all, it also takes courage. Because most of us prefer to continue to do what is comfortable and familiar, even if it's ultimately unproductive, and it is this tendency which often keeps us stuck. My job is to help my client identify those realistic options and to provide support in getting there.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help
Their goals for therapy, their past successes and frustrations; their personal resources and strengths; the roadblocks they believe are preventing them from attaining stated goals; their tolerance for self awareness and gaining a better understanding of the perspectives of others.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
To feel heard and understood. My approach is open and non-judgmental. All relationships require trust, respect and honesty and this one is no exception. Without these factors, we can not expect to accurately identify the core issues and make lasting progress toward building a more personally satisfying future.
