My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
It's about taking action. I will help you get in touch with what really matters: your heart's deepest desires for whom you want to be and what you want to do in life.
Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
I use an integrative approach which places high value on the therapeutic relationship resulting in highly personalized methodologies and techniques adapted to each client. My work draws heavily on cognitive behavioral and mindfulness strategies. When working with couples I incorporate experiential and systemic approaches.
With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual or couple to help them build on their strengths and live a vibrant, purposeful life.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
I don't think of my clients as "broken," they are just stuck. What keeps a normal human mind stuck are unhelpful thoughts that dominate our behavior and the ways the mind comes up with to escape from these unwanted and unpleasant feelings and sensations. This negative cycle then loops and feeds itself.
What Makes up a Problem?
Think of this: why does life inevitably involve pain? Every one of us will experience fear, sadness, anger, shock, guilt and disgust at some point in our lives. Our mind, in all its sophistication, will usually handle this pain ineffectively. By ineffective I mean in ways that are self-defeating or self destructing in the long run. It's when we are stuck in repeatedly doing things that self-defeating or self-destructive that we have a "problem."
