My Approach to Helping
My goal is to help you find hope again. I want to help you find hope in your future, to make sense of your story, to find success again in your relationships. Many times, we are struggling with the crisis in our lives, and what makes us stumble is when we lose sight of hope that things can get better. Counseling can be the tool to re-establish hope and move forward toward healing. To be seen and understood is our greatest yearning so that we might find real connection with others in our lives.
In therapy, I work to uncover patterns in your life that keep you from connection and to establish a feeling of belonging and safety in the midst of your relationships. By understanding your feelings you can better understand your needs that are going unmet. I work from an Attachment Focused lens that allows me to better understand how you respond to the relationships in your life based on the way connection and safety in your family of origin was established.
In my couples' counseling work, I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy and help you understand and change the way you respond to emotionally charged patterns in your marriage/relationship. In my individual counseling work, I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, and trauma resilience.
More Info About My Practice
I have been married since 1998 and have two children. My husband and I have done a lot of work in our marriage that has included marriage counseling, group and our own individual counseling. I think it is important to seek out a counselor who knows what it is like to sit in the other chair in the counseling room. I know what it feels like to lose hope, to stay in the darkness but to come out and find the light in life again. Through hard work, we have come to find an intimacy in our marriage that we never had before counseling. It is possible to have the relationship you long for, the emotional intimacy that we all crave in our closest relationships. It is hard work and takes being open to the process of learning and growing together, but it is possible and its in reach.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
Therapy can help you feel like you are not alone. It can provide you with support during a time of crisis and can remind you that you are cared for and valued. Therapy, for some, is most helpful during times of crisis, but for others, it can be helpful to explore phase of life issues, or to better understand your own life's purpose. I have some clients that come for a few months to get their feet under them again and to feel centered to be able to tackle tough things in their life. For others, therapy is ongoing and can help a client navigate their own choices and understand their own feelings to make life feel more vibrant.
