My Approach to Helping
I particularly enjoy working with women who are trying to regain equilibrium after experiencing a traumatic event, who are grieving, or who are struggling with relationships. People are complex, and I like helping folks identify their strengths, tease out insights, determine their goals, develop coping strategies, and get back to living their best lives.
My training is in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), psychoanalysis, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). I consider myself a lifelong learner, and continue to read and attend conferences to stay abreast of current research so I can be of the most use to my clients. I also make liberal use of supervision and consultation to gain other perspectives.
I generally start with a brief initial phone consultation to determine whether or not I can provide the appropriate level of care the individual requires, then either refer them out if I can not, or have them book an intake appointment through the office if I can, meet with them for about an hourlong in-person intake appointment, and then meet with them weekly (either in-person or via telehealth) to help them accomplish their goals. Therapy will progress more quickly if clients work between sessions, but I recognize that life happens, and sometimes it may be all a client can manage to show up for an appointment that week. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know people and helping them on their journeys.
