My Approach to Helping
Therapy should be focused on improving a client's life, in a way that makes sense to them. I listen very carefully to what my clients are going through and what they want to happen. I enjoy helping people by first finding out what specific goals they have and what changes in life they would like to make the most. It is important for me to work with my clients in a very collaborative way, where we team up or partner to work on issues. I try to help clients take time to work through the issues they find most important and to avoid interjecting the opinions of others or advice. By taking the time to get to know clients well, I often find that we reveal solutions that clients themselves have hidden away to be used for a special occasion.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am skilled at helping people work together, when their differences appear more common than similarities. I enjoy helping people entrenched in conflict use their passion to focus on working together once again, more constructively, but in a way that works for all of those involved. Motivation is always and issue in counseling/therapy. I understand that no two people entering counseling have the same interest in change, nor do any two people have the same exact set of goals. This is especially true for couples who are arguing often, parents raising teens, or anyone facing some other variation of family discord. I enjoy helping people find their motivation and helping groups of people find a common ground. When working with individuals, I frequently work to help those struggling with others develop skills and tactics to improve the quality of their interactions, without ever bringing a second person into the office.
