I believe that everyone has the ability to know wellness. My approach to helping people is based on mindfulness practice. I am committed to being fully present in a session, as I am committed in my life to practicing mindfulness to the best of my ability. When mindfulness and compassion are present, I find that I am well equipped to explore challenges the client presents, assist the client in awareness of physical sensations as issues arise in the session, and to discover together options and practices for healing and growth. With this approach, coupled with ethical guidelines, I have found that the relationship is safe and supports transformation.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love to help people and I am skilled at developing relationships that are honest and caring. I love watching the transformations that occur when people are open to learning and engaging in the challenges of therapy. I find that my best efforts are rewarded by a person's best efforts and together we make change possible. This is a beautiful experience.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

The major theoretical influence that guides my work with you is mindfulness. I rely on my own long term meditation practice as well as the formal training I have had to bring this approach to you. I am also trained in Bowen Family Systems Therapy. My orientation in Family Systems Theory provides me with a framework to help individuals understand how anxiety exists in a family and provides a method for stepping out of the idea that one person has 'the problem' in the family. By creating family diagrams and studying family history it is possible to be a more well defined individual who is better able to function within the family and society. With all that said, the relationship is key and my highest priority is establishing a safe, calm, caring presence with every person I help. Mindfulness-based therapy allows for deep listening, opportunities for guided practice and support to bring skillful means into every moment, resulting in a being living life fully with all that is.
