My Approach to Helping
Trauma, poor self-image, depression, and anxiety can make maneuvering life's circumstances overwhelming. Even more so when attempting to face the battle alone. My approach to counseling is to provide a safe, supportive environment and sounding board where clients can heal from the past, redefine how the see themselves in the present, and find hope for the future while utilizing a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches based on the individual needs and goals of my client. I also work with couples to improve communication, strengthen their relationship, and create a connection that is is built to last.
As a parent or caregiver, it can be incredibly difficult to watch your child struggle. I work together with parents to help them support their child through the healing process. Because every child is different, I use a variety of tools and approaches; including child-centered play therapy, game-based cognitive behavioral therapy, sand tray, bibliotherapy, and expressive arts therapy to help meet your child’s unique needs.
Preteens and adolescents may be skeptical of the counseling process. It can be difficult for them to open up due to fears of being misunderstood, judged, or criticized. I specialize in creating a safe, non-judgmental environment based on trust and respect where they can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, feelings, and struggles. I offer hands-on activities, such as sandtray and expressive arts, that can take the pressure off, reduce feelings of self-consciousness, and allow clients to express themselves more freely and openly.
