My Approach to Helping

I believe we are all unique persons living life's journey in search of growth, connection, and wholeness. In various stages of our lives we all need help determining the proper decisions when faced with the challenges of change, choice, or confusion that limit our growth. In therapeutic partnership, we will work together to create a safe and supportive experience built upon trust. As therapy unfolds, it will help you explore who you are, what you seek, and what problems and challenges you face. Together, we can then create strategies that encourage desired and meaningful paths of change toward achieving your goals, with aim toward empowering you toward future challenges.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My specialties focus on working with individuals and couples seeking help with emotional problems influenced by:

- Lack of trust
- Emotional and physical intimacy
- Boundary challenges
- Relational authenticity - learning to meet one another's needs in relationship
- Communication troubles including anger, control, silence, distance, submission, withdrawal
- Infidelity
- Pornography, sexual addiction, or and other unwanted sexual behavior*
- Childhood and adult trauma
- Negative family patterns
- Feeling "Stuck" or ambivalent towards life or relationships

*I specialize in working with individuals struggling with problematic/addictive sexual behavior which may be obsessive, compulsive, or escalating; impacting a persons relationships and/or health. Beyond the traditional 12 step methods used to treat these struggles, I employ a variety of integrated psychological treatment methods, developed based upon the unique needs of the client, aimed toward understanding and modifying unwanted sexual behavior.

I also offer therapeutic consultation to therapists and counselors on a "as needed basis" to assist with assessment and treatment strategies and education.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

So how does therapy work? Undertaking therapy is an act of courage, hope, and desire for insight. Though approaches, techniques, and experience all play a part in therapy; research has repeatedly shown that the safe and connected relationship within the therapeutic relationship is the best indicator of successful therapy. It is the challenge of your therapist to work with you to determine your unique needs, guiding you towards the meaning and solutions that you possess within. I believe therapy honors the emotional and relational nature of people, accentuates your innermost uniqueness, reveals the influence and purpose of our lives, and can ignite the power of personal choice essential to conducting change in our lives.
