My Approach to Helping
Negative thoughts and feelings are a terrible drain on how fully we live and enjoy life. As a senior clinician, I have seen first hand how much suffering depression, anxiety, troubled relationships, substance abuse, a negative self- or body-image can cause, and what a profound difference therapy can make in people's lives. In a comfortable, confidential setting, therapy begins with a careful consideration of what is troubling you, what needs to change, and how good a match we are in working together to achieve these changes. My approach is a blend of many different methods but is primarily based in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which offers understanding into how we've become who we are today, and mindfulness and cognitive behavioral techniques to overcome painful thoughts and feelings. I consider a more positive view of yourself and your life central to emotional health, and we will pay special attention to what moves you in this direction. The frequency and length of treatment varies but is customized to your needs and circumstances. Whatever course yours takes, our work together will increase your mood, self-esteem and relationships so that you can enjoy a fuller life.
