My Approach to Helping
Depression, anxiety, troubled relationships, substance abuse, a negative self- or body-image all limit well-being. In a comfortable, confidential setting, we will study together what is causing your pain, what needs to change, and what paths will lead to emotional health. My eclectic approach combines psychodynamic psychotherapy, to understand how you've come to be who you are, and mindfulness and cognitive behavioral techniques to better manage your painful thoughts and feelings. I consider a more positive, hopeful view of yourself and your life central to well-being, and we will pay special attention to what moves you in that direction. The frequency and length of treatment is customized to your needs and circumstances. Whatever course it takes, our work together will improve your mood, self-esteem and relationships.
More Info About My Practice
I work with men and women 18 years and older in individual therapy. I am currently offering only telehealth sessions but will be returning to my office in downtown Newburyport as soon as it is safe to do so; it offers ample parking and handicap accessibility. I am a provider for many insurance companies, including all BlueCrossBlueShield plans, Optum (UBH, United Healthcare, Harvard Pilgrim) and commercial Tufts plans. I also have a sliding fee scale for those who prefer the privacy and full control of their treatment offered by self-pay. Please contact me directly or see my web site for more detailed information about my services.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have extensive experience and training in treating substance abuse issues, especially alcohol addiction. I also have expertise in exploring the impact that physical appearance has on people?s sense of self. While dismissed as skin deep and often acutely uncomfortable to discuss, it can be very helpful to talk openly about the role your looks have played in your life.
