My Approach to Helping
In each of our lives there are times when we feel stuck and unable to make the changes we so dearly desire. Often the change we want is to have a better relationship with our partner. Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
People often believe that relationships are supposed to be if not easy at least not really hard. I often hear people say that if it is this hard then maybe we just aren't right for each other. The truth is relationships are hard, and messy, at least at times. While a relationship is two people sharing their love it is also two people sharing their insecurities, vulnerabilities and defenses. It is bound to get rough once in awhile. And if the rough patches don't lead to growth they will lead to more rough patches. We each have our own "tool box" that we use to "fix" problems. However, we don't always have the right tool for the job. Going to therapy helps you to gain more tools to address the problem. Getting help when you are stuck is smart not weak. A therapist has the tools you need and is unbiased so you make the decision of how to move forward with your relationship.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
I typically see clients once a week for 50 minute appointments. We can meet more frequently or for a longer duration if you would like quicker results. It's difficult to predict how long therapy will last. It often takes about 10 sessions to get good traction with changes we are implementing. After that happens it is up to you as to how much change and growth you would like to create.
