My Approach to Helping
Life during this COVID 19 epidemic is particularly challenging. I'd love to help you find ways to achieve your dreams, feel less alone, and restore your confidence in yourself and your future. I'd suggest you try me out for a couple sessions, and see if you like how we work together. Successful counseling relationships are a bit like dating: of course you want a competent, skilled therapist, but also someone you "click" with, who "gets" you, who you can disagree with and trust. After a couple sessions you will have a pretty good idea if you think my style is a good fit, and if not I can suggest some other therapists or therapy approaches you might like better. I have over 25 years experience helping clients define and meet their goals. I believe that our work together is most successful when it is non-pathologizing, collaborative, individualized, practical and leavened by humor.I will draw upon therapy approaches such as Internal Family Systems Theory to help you better understand and integrate the different parts of your internal life,so that those subpersonalities can function effectively together with mutual respect, and are able to stop carrying around old burdens. I will also draw upon cognitive strategies, stress reduction techniques, mindfulness, dream and active imagination work, and mindbody connection. We will add tools to your toolkit for living well. I will strongly recommend that you have a medical doctor give you a thorough health check-up, so we don\'t miss something that might impede your natural ability to heal and move forward in your life.
